Emory Motorsports has over 25 years of experience in the Porsche renovation market, but even with a quarter-century’s expertise under their belts, certain tasks give them pause. Transferring a 1965nPorsche 356 car body onto a more recent 911 Carrera 4-wheel-drive chassis, for example.
Many questions came to mind at the outset. Quite broadly: How? What to cut, and where? Rather than risk irreparable damage to the classic 356 ‘Outlaw’ Porsche body, Emory decided to turn to 3D scanning for help.
Using a Faro 3D scanner to scan 3D data directly into Geomagic Design X, Emory’s team of engineers scaled their scan of the 356 Porsche body along with the newer 911 chassis, and were then able to plan precisely how the two would fit together with micron-level accuracy.
Geomagic Design X is one of our engineering software products that makes 3D scan-to-CAD incredibly easy. Using nearly any scanner on the market, 3D data scans directly into Geomagic Design X, where it is transformed into 3D solid CAD data in just minutes. With one more click of a button, this solid model data can be imported natively into your MCAD system, including SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, Solid Edge, Siemens NX, Pro/ENGINEER and Creo.
